Our Tune of the Day for Friday, May 18 2012 is “Sick As A Dog” by Aerosmith from 1976′s Rocks. I grew up in Connecticut in the Seventies and we listened to Aerosmith. Enough Said.

1999 Gibson Les Paul Standard 1959 Reissue in a no reserve auction. Seller says it’s 100 percent original. Seller adds it’s almost flawless on the top and has some wear on the back. Check out the pictures. We like the not over the top top on this one. Tasteful. With original Gibson case. Cool.

1957 Martin 000-18 in a no reserve auction. Seller puts it in Good to Very Good condition. Seller says there is a repaired pickguard crack and a repaired back crack. Seller adds the neck has recently been professionally reset and the frets have been dressed and polished. With no original case (Seller believes it’s ’60s). Nice looking guitar. Very Cool.

Our Tune of the Day for Wednesday, May 16 2012 is Bob Dylan’s “You Ain’t Going Nowhere” by the Byrds from 1968′s Sweetheart of the Rodeo. This one should really be the Album of the Day as the whole damn thing is strong. Still. The only Byrd’s album graced by the presence of Gram Parsons (who left shortly thereafter to form the Flying Burrito Brothers with Chris Hillman, hang out with Keith, etc.).

1959 Gibson ES-355 in Cherry in a no reserve auction. Looks like a pawn shop is unloading this. Seller does not speak to the originality of everything here and the pictures, while decent, do not include the underside of the pickups. Seller notes there is a hairline crack at the bottom of the headstock wing that does not appear to be causing any problems. Take a look. This one could well be wired mono. We would ask a bunch of questions. With what looks like the original Lifton case. Very, very cool.

1975 Martin D-18 in a no reserve auction. Seller says he’s the original owner, having purchased the guitar in ’75. Seller says it has he standard pickguard crack (pictured). Other than that some minor dings and scatches. Seller adds the neck is straight and the action is factory. With original blue Martin case. Nice clean looking example. Very cool.

Our Tune of the Day for Monday, May 14 2012 is “Matty Groves” by Fairport Convention. Prior to 1969′s Liege & Lief Fairport Convention was your standard folk rock group playing covers of Joni Mitchell, Dylan and Leonard Cohen songs. Then, legend has it, they heard The Band’s Music From Big Pink, flipped their wigs and decided to apply that formula to the traditional music of their homeland, Great Britain. “Matty Groves” is a fine example of their success with this new direction. A traditional tune that dates back to the 17th Century and is included in the Child Ballads, “Matty Groves” has it all- adultery, jealous rage and double homicide. Plus, in Fairport’s version, it totally rocks. Hope you’ll agree.

2011 Gibson L-00 in Cherry Sunburst in a no reserve auction. Seller says this has almost no wear at all and the wear it does have is mostly around the the sides of the headstock from a plastic key winder. Seller adds no damage or repairs. Sweet looking little guitar, good that Gibson is making these again. With original case. Cool.

This week’s entry to the Deadhead Corner Tune of the Day is their rendition of Green Onions from Rochester in 1988. This was the only time they played the Booker T and the MGs classic. RIP Duck Dunn. Check Track 1.

1956 Gibson ES-295 in a no reserve auction. This one kind of got away from us and is ending soon. Apologies. Seller says the guitar is original with heavy finish checking. Seller adds that there is not much wear to the frets and fretboard, the action is comfortable (with some room to come down) and the electronics are working as they should. Good pictures here.
