Our Tune of the Day for Wednesday, February 12 2012 is “Rusty Cage” by Johnny Cash from 1996′s Rick Rubin produced “Unchained.” Thanks to Duztin for the suggestion. This was the second album in the American series, all of which are excellent. Here we have the Man in Black making a Soundgarden tune his own. Most cool.

Seller puts it in Good condition with mild wear and notes the tuners have been changed and there is some touch up on the back of the headstock to cover the old screw holes. The pickguard is missing. Seller notes this is a rare model. We agree, we don’t see them that often. With OHSC. Very cool.

1963 Gretsch Chet Atkins 6120 in a no reserve auction. This one has had some work done on it. Seller says the neck has been reset, and the fretboard replaced. It has new frets and inlays, and the side dots are larger than they normally would be. The mute is gone, the bridge is non-original and there is an added bar under which the strings pass between the Bigsby and the bridge. Seller mentions some routing also. Check out the description. Despite all of the above, it’s throwing off a nice vibe. With OHSC. Cool.
Seller doesn’t speak to the originality of everything here but it’s probably safe to assume this is what it is. Read the description and take a look at the pictures. Nice looking example. With OHSC. Twangy. Cool.

1964 Gibson FJN in a no reserve auction. We don’t see these that often. They have 12 frets clear of the body. Seller puts it in Excellent condition noting the white flamenco style pickguard was removed years ago. It would be easy enough to get another one made. Seller says the guitar has no cracks, just minor finish checking. There is a spot of finish chipping on the bridge. Seller adds the neck on this is wider than standard, measuring 2 inches at the nut. With new HSC. Very cool.

1962 Gibson made Epiphone FT110 Frontier in a no reserve auction. We saw one of these go for 3K earlier in the month. From the description and the pictures, this one looks nicer. Search “FT-100″ over on the right to see that one. Seller puts it in Excellent all original condition with no cracks, breaks or repairs. Read the description and take a look at the (excellent) pictures. Seller says the action is low but the guitar could probably benefit from a neck reset in the future. Love the ropes and cactus pickguard. With OHSC. Very cool.

Our Tune of the Day for Monday, February 20 2012 is “Marquee Moon” by Televison from their 1977 debut album of the same name. Love the way Tom Verlaine’s and Richard Lloyd’s guitars mesh here. Sparse, dark and epic. The rest of the set is first rate also. Very cool.
