This week’s entry in the Deadhead Corner Tune of the Day is from the ’87 tour they played with Bob Dylan in honor of Bob’s recent birthday. Dylan was obviously a big influence on the Dead, with the Dead covering many of his songs over the years. Phil Lesh has cited Subterranean Homesick Blues as being a key influence in his decision to get into rock music. In summer of 1987 the Dead toured with Dyaln, playing one or two sets by themselves and then backing Dylan for a set. Dylan later said the Dead helped him see new ways to open up his songs (and he relearned songs he had forgotten about, search out the rehearsal sessions to see how many songs they practiced).
